For those that are interested. On Thursday Jan 16 at 7:30PM I will attempt to tie our IRLP node to a net in Southern California, An outdoor adventure and ham club called OAUSA puts on weekly nets on a verity of different outdoor subjects.
This week’s net is on APRS.
I say “attempt” as the last time I tried I could hear them but they could not hear me to check in.
Its a good group. I met up with them on a ten day 4×4 trip through Arizona, New Mexico and Utah a few years back. We used Simplex APRS (no digipeaters in the back country) to keep track of where all our vehicles were. One of the guys used a pactor-3 ($,$$$) modem with his HF rig to send photos back to his family.
Here is a calendar of future subjects that they will be having.
01/16/14 APRS
01/23/14 Comfort Camping
01/30/14 Camp Kitchens and Utensils
02/06/14 Camp Cooking Methods
02/13/14 Outdoor Myths Busted
02/20/14 Vehicle Essentials
02/27/14 Expedient Vehicle Repairs
03/06/14 Tires and Lights
03/13/14 Field Antennas and Construction
03/20/14 Ham Radio Installation Options (including radios, speakers and microphones)
03/27/14 Destination Kings Canyon, CA
The net starts at 7:30 with a rather lengthy check-in procedure and typically runs to 9:00 PM
The net is held on the Western Reflector at Node 9251
