Field Day

Come Join SCRA at Field Day 2026

June 26, 27, 28

Why Field Day???

ARRL Field Day (FD) started back in the 1930s as a test of amateur radio operator’s ability to work “in the field” under emergency-like conditions. FD has become one of the most popular events in ham radio and has grown beyond a mere test of our EmComm capabilities.

The theme for 2025 was “Radio Connects”. And connect we did! Not only with other active hams but also with those that showed an interest in amateur radio and demonstrated what a wonderful hobby we all enjoy.

If you are new to Field Day and want to learn more, please visit the ARRL’s Field Day website: www.arrl.org/field-day

Here is a great interview with SCRA about Field Day 2025, by Mark Prell KN6VGA of KRCB.

Field Day is a wonderful opportunity to experience many facets of amateur radio. From setting up a station and antennas to operating a contest, logging contacts, along with plenty of time to socialize.

The location for FD2026 will be Youth Community Park, 1750 Fulton Rd, Santa Rosa (across the street from Piner High School)

Our goal is to have a total of five stations:

  • SSB (Voice)
  • CW (Morse code)
  • Digital (i.e PSK-31)
  • Get-On-The-Air (GOTA) (for under-licensed and unlicensed operators)
  • Satellite

Get On The Air (GOTA) Station:

For those hams that do not have a General class or higher license, or for those that do not even have a license (at least, not yet!) but still want to participate on the air, the Get On the Air or “GOTA” station is for you! You can make contacts under the supervision of a General class or higher control operator.

Exam Session on Saturday:

If you want to earn your new license or upgrade, there will be an opportunity to do so at Field Day. The exam session will be on Saturday, June 27, between Noon and 2pm. This will leave plenty of time afterward to make use of the GOTA station, or, for those that have upgraded, to use your new privileges at the SSB, CW, or Digital station. More details can be found here.

Event Dates and Times:

  • Friday, June 26, beginning at 5pm (earlier, if we can manage it) – Goal is to setup as much as we can before sundown
  • Saturday, June 27, 8am to 11am – Complete setup
  • Saturday, June 27, 11am – Operating period begins
  • Saturday, June 27, Noon to 2pm – Amateur Radio Exam Session
  • Saturday, June 27, 2pm – Educational Activity
  • Saturday, June 27 ~ 5:30pm – Dinner
  •  Sunday, June 28, 11am – Operating period ends, Teardown begins
  • Sunday, June 28, 2pm – Finish Teardown, Leave Park

Field Day Planning Meetings:

  • Sunday, June 7, 9:30am to 11:00am at Youth Community Park

Wanted: Volunteers

We have the station captains and other team leads identified (see list below). But we still need volunteers to help them. This is definitely a team effort! We need people to help setup on Friday and Saturday and to help tear down on Sunday. In between, we need to staff the various stations and help with the Educational Activity and Dinner on Saturday evening. There are individual sign-up pages for each day. Another will be added specifically for Dinner on Saturday. Click on the appropriate link below.
