Thanks for all the help a lot of you have given me so far. It is greatly appreciated.

I’m looking for my first HF radio. I have a portable balanced wire inverted V dipole planned to get me started. I have my eye on a few antenna tuners so I can tune a few bands 40-10m I think.

I’m suck between new and used. I would like somethimg I can put in the truck and take camping with me. I’m learnimg CW…slowly.

I’m considering older Kenwoods: ts-120,130, and 140. Also TenTec Argonauts, Eagle, Scouts. Some Icoms and Yaesus…

New considerations: Yaesu 991, 490D, kenwood TS-590SG (too big?) 480SAT

I preferr knobs and buttons over buried menus….Ten Tec style…but im really open to anything with displays on the larger side of things. The Yaesu 857 is a bit small display wise.

So I’m looking for recommendations, opinions, or maybe one of you have and older semi-portable, or portable radio gathering dust you want to sell.

    Thanks again

The TS590 is a great radio. Great display visible in bright daylight.
Also in newer radios consider the ICOM IC7300; see the review August QST.
In older radios the TS 130 and 140 are good choices, I have had both.
