Technician License Class – March Introductory @ Graton Fire Protection District Firehouse
Mar 16 @ 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Welcome to the exciting world of Ham Radio!

Technician License Class

Our next Technician License class will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 and Sunday, March 18, 2018.   The Saturday class will begin at 8:00AM and continue until 6PM.  The Sunday class will begin at 8:00AM and end at 3:00PM when the Technician License Examination will be conducted by our team of SCRA Volunteer Examiners.  We will have frequent, short breaks during the class, and 45 minutes for a lunch break each day.  There will be an introductory class meeting on Friday, March 16, 2018, from 6:00PM to 9:00PM to cover some of the class material in greater depth; and, we will also conduct a practice examination to provide you with useful feedback before the formal class.  Location for the class will be the training room at the Graton Fire Protection District Firehouse at 3750 Gravenstein Highway (State Route 116) North of Sebastopol, CA.

Our weekend Technician License classes have been very successful.   Since 2007 when SCRA started its weekend Technician license classes, over 250 people have obtained their amateur radio license.  In our July 2017 class, all nine students passed the exam on their first attempt.

Take our class if you are interested in obtaining your Technician Class ham radio license and obtaining valuable information relating to assembly and proper and safe operation of your amateur radio station.  Unlike cell phones, and family radio service (FRS) walkie-talkies, the amateur radio service is available only to qualified applicants, so you need to prepare ahead of the examination.  Our class will give you the background to understand and enjoy amateur radio!

The Technician License test covers basic rules, operating practices and radio theory and must be passed in order to qualify for, and obtain, your ham radio license.  You should expect to be successful with this entry level test, providing you prepare for your license in the weeks before the class. The study material is not hard, but needs to be covered before you join our class and take the test.

There is no charge for our class.  The Volunteer Examiner testing fee is $15.00.  Check our VE Exam schedule under the Events tab for times and places for license examinations throughout the year.

If you would like to be in our class, please contact me directly via email.  We have study materials available now, and we strongly recommend you  get started with your pre-class preparation as soon as you can!  There is no charge for the class itself, but it requires prestudy of the Gordon West Technician Class study materials.  Cost for the study materials, including the Gordon West 244 page Technician Class study manual, is $20.00, and you can arrange for pickup from me.  Or, you can order the book directly from the publisher:  www.w5yi.org.   We will be using Gordo’s proven study guide and method in this class.  Virtually every one of our students passed the Technician License exam on their first attempt.  Our method works!

If you would like to register for our November class, please contact me, so that I can add your name to the list before the class fills up.  We can handle a maximum of 16 students.

GENERAL CLASS or EXTRA CLASS license upgrade?  Contact me and we’ll advise you concerning self-study assistance  if that would be helpful. Mentors for SCRA members desiring to upgrade are always available to help.

We at SCRA look forward to hearing from you.
